The Festival of Scarecrows
Great fun for children and adults alike

The popular Festival of Scarecrows returns to the Insch and Oyne area in Aberdeenshire on 26th and 27th September. Organised by the local parish church, this fun community event invites residents and local businesses to display creative straw figures along village trails, raising vital funds for local schools and charities.
The Return of the Straw Creations
Insch and Oyne, along with Premnay and Leslie come alive in autumn as quirky, hand-crafted straw characters pop up outside homes, local shops, and community spaces. Families, schools and local groups spend weeks planning their unique designs. They turn simple bundles of straw and old clothes into famous fictional characters, athletes and animals.
What to Expect on the Trail
- Grab a treasure hunt map to guide your walk through the villages.
- Vote for your favourite handmade straw figures to help pick the winner.
- Enjoy local teas, soups and sweet treats served at community hubs.
- Support fundraising efforts for local primary schools and the church.
